fall 2017 wardrobe update | the stripe

At the beginning of every season (after pouring over loads of outfit inspiration and thinking about what trends I want to try), I like to take stock of everything I own and identify the holes to decide which items need to be taken to the tailor/cobbler, what to toss, and of course (the fun part) what to buy. Today I’m sharing 5 holes in my own wardrobe – items I will be (or already have) bought and probably wearing to death this season. I’ve included splurge/save versions of each. As always you can click the image to shop, or read on below to see why I’m loving each item.

Shearling Moto Jacket // It all started with this shearling moto jacket from Kate Spade. It’s so good. So chic and effortless and amazing. Alas, at nearly $1700, it’s just too pricey. So I looked for faux options. The best two that I found were this one from Express (pictured), and this one from Levi’s. They’re both ultra chic but a fraction of the price. Real shearling is amazing (I do have a long shearling coat I got at the outlets a couple years ago) but faux looks just as cute (and is oftentimes just as warm!!)

The Box Bag // This one was a little bit tougher, and I am NOT saying that the “save version” is a steal by any means. It’s still quite expensive. I have been crushing on one of Victoria Beckham’s Vanity Cases or a Mark Cross bag for a while now but they are just so expensive for something that’s trendy and not very practical. I spent forever (a truly embarrassingly long amount of time) trying to track down an affordable lookalike and came up short. The best option I’ve found so far is this Aspinal of London Trunk Clutch, also in black. I love this option but am going to keep looking! (Let me know if you guys have suggestions!) You can also get the look with an actual vanity case (this one from Reiss is pretty great, but at $345, again, I can’t call it a true steal). Or, go vintage! I did a search for leather vanity cases on Etsy and came up with a lot of good options. This one is spot on and a better price than both of the “steal” options.

Long Sleeve Midi Wrap Dress // Yes, this is a bit specific… I live in midi wrap dresses all summer long but I’ve been looking high and low for great dresses with sleeves. They’re so versatile! You can wear now with bare legs, layer on a leather jacket and ankle boots in a few weeks, and when it’s really cold, just add tights and over-the-knee boots. In this case I have both the splurge and the save versions and love both.

Disk Choker // I have had a difficult time finding choker necklaces that I like and I think it’s because some of them cut your neck off in a funny way and can make you look a little bit… strange? I went to dinner with the Gorjana team on Monday night and two of the girls there were wearing the brand’s “Chloe Choker.” They each styled it differently, but I liked that they wore it a little higher up on their neck. I liked it so much that I bought it (yes, bought) on the spot, at their new store. I love it. Gorjana’s jewelry is worth the money to me – it’s well made and doesn’t tarnish, even years later. Still, if you want to get the look for (a lot less), this $5 Forever 21 option is pretty cute too – I like that the discs are cut out, it’s really interesting looking!

Classic Loafers // I splurged on a pair of classic brown Gucci loafers and love them so much. They’re comfortable, casual, a little bit preppy but not too preppy… basically, I am obsessed. When it comes to finding a “save” version, I searched high and low and ASOS wins. At only $56, this pair is so chic and could be mistaken for the Guccis. If you are looking for brown though (I was), I also love these, and also these, which come in tan + a whole bunch of other pretty colors.
